Blessing God

When God blesses a person, it means that God benefits that person. However, in other places, the Bible also mentions instances where people “bless” God. Yet, this does not mean that people can benefit God.

A good example of what it means to “bless” God is found in 1 Chronicles 29:10:

And David blessed the LORD in the eyes of all the assembly. And David said: “Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, from everlasting and until everlasting.”

Here, David blessed God by declaring that God is blessed. Therefore, when people “bless” God, they are not benefitting God in any way. Rather, they are recognizing the reality that God is blessed.
