The Infinity Of God

Asher Chee |

God is infinite. To be finite means to be limited; to be restricted in some way from being or doing something if you so wish. Thus, for God to be infinite means that he is unlimited; he has none of the aforementioned restrictions.

Omnipresence

God is everywhere all the time; in all places and in everything. Just as God is unlimited with respect to time, God is also unlimited with respect to space. Even though God is spirit and therefore he does not take up space, his presence fills every point of space in the world.

Psalm 139:7–10 Where shall I go from your spirit,
or where from your face shall I flee?
If I ascend the heavens, there you are,
and if I lay in Sheol, behold, you!
I may raise the wings of the dawn,
I may dwell at the end of the sea;
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.

Jeremiah 23:24 ... Do I not fill the heavens and the earth? declares Jehovah.

1 Kings 8:27 But will God really dwell on the earth? Behold the heavens, and the heavens of the heavens cannot contain you, much less this house which I have built!

2 Chronicles 2:6 But who is powerful enough to build for him a house, for the heavens, and the heavens of the heavens cannot contain him; and who am I that I should build for him a house, except to make offerings before him.

Transcendence

Matthew 6:9 Therefore, you pray thus:
Our father who is in the heavens,
may your name be sanctified.

Psalm 113:4 High over all nations is Jehovah,
over the heavens is his glory.

Psalm 115:2–3, 16 Why do the nations say:
Where now is their God?
But our God is in the heavens;
he does all which pleases him.
...
The heavens, the heavens are Jehovah’s,
but the earth he has given to the sons of man.

Immanence

Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the one who is high and lifted, who dwells eternally, and holy is his name: I dwell high and holy, and with the crushed and lowly of spirit, to enliven the spirit of lowly ones, and to enliven the heart of broken ones.

Psalm 113:5–6 Who is like Jehovah our God,
the one who makes high to sit,
the one who makes low to see,
in the heavens and in the earth.

Philippians 4:5–6 Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Omniscience

God has complete and perfect knowledge of all things, both the actual and the possible. There is nothing that he does not know.

Job 37:16 Do you know about the balancing of the clouds;
the wonders of the one who is perfect of knowledge?

1 John 3:20 that when our heart condemns us, that greater is God than our heart, and he knows all things.

Psalm 139:1–4 To the director, a psalm by David.
Jehovah, you have searched me and you know.
You know my sitting and my standing;
you understand my thought from afar.
You measure my path and my lying down;
you are acquainted with all my ways.
When there is no word in my tongue,
behold, Jehovah you know all of it.

Matthew 6:8 Therefore, do not be like them, for your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask him.

Resulting from his Omnipresence

Jeremiah 23:24 Can a man be hidden in hiding places such that I cannot see him? declares Jehovah. Do I not fill the heavens and the earth? declares Jehovah.

Proverbs 15:3 In every place are the eyes of Jehovah, watching evil ones and good ones.

Hebrews 4:13 And there is not a creature unmanifest before him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of him before whom our accounting is.

God knows the future

The Bible, which is the production of God, contains many predictions about future events, many of which have been accurately fulfilled many years after they were written down.

Isaiah 46:9–10 Remember the first things from eternity,
that I am God and there is no other god,
and none is like me;
telling the end from the beginning,
and [telling] from before things not yet done;

God knows the possible

God even knows what would have otherwise happened if events happened differently from how they actually happened in reality.

1 Samuel 23:11–13

Matthew 11:21, 23 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles which happened in you happened in Tyre and Sidon, then they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes... And you, Capernaum, shall you be lifted up to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles which happened in you happened in Sodom, then it would remain until today.
