What Is The Gospel?
Asher Chee |The word “Gospel” means “good news”.
The Gospel is the good news that God is bringing his kingdom into the world (Matth. 4:17; 24:14; Luk. 4:43; 8:1; Acts 8:12). The most important part of the Gospel is that Jesus died for our sins and rose again from the dead (1 Cor. 15:3–4) so that we may be forgiven our sins and made right with God (Rom. 3:24–25). When we talk about “Christianity” or “theology”, or when the Bible mentions true “teaching” or “the faith” (Rom. 1:5; Gal. 1:23; Jud. 1:3, 20), all these refer to the same thing: the Gospel.
However, believing in the Gospel does not just mean agreeing with a list of facts. Rather, a person who truly believes in the Gospel will inevitably live it out in a walk with God, daily conforming his life according to what God has revealed in the Gospel. What we believe is crucial because it dictates how we live. There are so many elements of the Gospel for us to enjoy, and the more we grow in the Gospel, the more we are enabled to live for God.
Let us take time to reflect on what we believe, and regularly test whether our beliefs are consistent with the Gospel, because only when our beliefs line up with the Gospel can we truly live a life for God.
