Does the Trinity Make Sense?

Asher Chee |

Some people reject the concept of the Trinity because they think that it is not logical. How can it be that there is only one God, but three persons are truly God, yet these three persons are distinct? How can God exist in multiple persons?

However, just because we cannot understand something does not mean that it is not true or logical. For example, a certain scientific concept might not make sense to people who do not specialize in that scientific field. Yet, this does not mean that the scientific concept is not logical. Rather, a non-specialist does not have the capacity to understand the scientific concept in a logical manner.

We must realize that in many ways, our human capacity is limited. Thus, we will not always be able to understand many concepts in a logical manner—even if the concept itself is logical and true. This includes the concept of the Trinity.

We might find it difficult to understand the concept of the Trinity, since in our experience, no other being exists in multiple persons. We should not limit God to our understanding. Rather, our ideas about God must be based on what God has revealed in the Bible. If the component truths of the Trinity are true according to the Bible, then we must accept the concept of the Trinity even if we cannot fully understand it.
